Pioneering Design & Strategy for Global Air Cargo Hubs

Project

About the

The Mophane City International Cargo Airport (MCIA) Project is a visionary endeavor designed to position Botswana as a leading air cargo and passenger hub, not just for Southern Africa but for the entire continent. This multi-billion-dollar initiative is strategically crafted to meet Africa’s growing logistical demands by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure that links the region to major global markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. By establishing Botswana as a central logistics hub, the MCIA project will revolutionize air cargo transport across Africa, streamline trade, and fuel regional economic growth. With a long-term vision, this development will enhance Botswana’s global standing and establish the country as a significant player in international air transport and logistics.

Trade and Connectivity

A Game-Changer for Africa’s

The Botswana government is developing a 100,000-hectare industrial and commercial zone in Central Botswana, strategically located along a key logistics route that connects South Africa’s sea ports, the Kazungula Bridge, Zambia, and further into Africa. This critical corridor facilitates the movement of millions of tons of goods between Africa and international markets.

Botswana’s 123 Dimensions (Pty) Ltd is spearheading the development of a USD 15 billion international cargo airport and township, which is set to create 15,000 permanent jobs, with an additional 40,000 to 60,000 jobs generated by the surrounding industrial and commercial hub. Once completed, the Mophane City International Airport (MCIA) will handle 20-30 large international cargo flights daily, managing up to 500,000 tonnes of cargo per year.

The project will feature a state-of-the-art cargo terminal, passenger terminal, and a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, designed to serve Southern Africa and beyond. Initially capable of accommodating 5 million passengers annually, the airport is projected to expand its capacity to serve up to 20 million passengers as the project develops.

Mophane Airport is set to become Africa’s premier hub, strategically located along key trade routes connecting Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Its state-of-the-art terminals will boast efficient layouts, a wide selection of dining and shopping options, and extensive hospitality and duty-free services, making it a standout destination in Sub-Saharan Africa.

To accommodate the increasing air traffic in Southern Africa, MCIA will invest heavily in cutting-edge infrastructure, positioning itself as one of the busiest airports in the region and across the continent, welcoming millions of passengers annually.

With its modern terminals, seamless operations, and luxurious amenities, Mophane Airport will offer more than just a transit point—it will deliver a world-class travel experience.
